When Life Gets Too Full

This week’s blog wasn’t supposed to look like this.

I had planned to write about what happens when life gets too full—when our bandwidth shrinks, our capacity stretches thin, and clear thinking feels just out of reach. And then, ironically, life got too full to write it.

The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of travel, presentations, and back-to-back commitments. A few years ago, I would have pushed through anyway—arriving late, leaving early, or squeezing in writing time no matter what. But this time, I chose differently.

Not because writing doesn’t matter to me—it does. But because I realized the pressure to produce a full blog this week wasn’t coming from anyone else. It was an internal rule I’d been carrying.

And there’s a difference between living by our values and living by our internal rules.

One brings alignment and meaning. The other can quietly turn into obligation.

I still overfill my schedule sometimes. But I’m getting quicker at noticing when it happens—and more willing to make a different choice when it does.

This past weekend, in the middle of the busyness, I gave myself one intentional hour. Not to catch up, but to pause. To reflect. To look honestly at where I am and what the next season will require of me.

It didn’t create more time or check anything off my list. But it gave me something more important: clarity.

It also reminded me how often we wait for permission to slow down, reset, or choose differently—when in reality, that permission is ours to give.

So instead of a full blog, I’ll leave you with a question that’s been sitting with me:

Where am I letting an unwritten rule make decisions that my values should be making instead?
